National Mall Plus
Pass the Washington Monument, National WWII Memorial, Vietnam
Veterans Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, and other national attractions. Then
escape the crowds for some running, jogging, or walking on the Potomac,
see the C&O Canal, and end at Washington Harbour, a lively riverside
eating and drinking spot.
Potomac Parks and Arlington
Pass the Washington Monument and the Jefferson, FDR, and Lincoln
Memorials. Follow wide, attractive trails along the Potomac and in adjacent
parks. These are popular running and joging venues with Washington
locals. End where there are several good pubs and restaurants for winding
down, with convenient access to the Iwo Jima Memorial and Arlington
National Cemetery.
Mount Vernon Trail to Alexandria
Run or walk along the beautiful Potomac River past some of the main
national capital monuments, Reagan National Airport, and some less
inhabited terrain, to Old Town Alexandria, the oldest incorporated town in
this region. It is full of historic sites, tourist attractions and shops. There are
also many good pubs and restaurants. Catch the Metro back downtown.
Rock Creek Park to Georgetown
Escape from the crowds, vehicles, and city scene. This trail covers widely
varied terrain, much of it more of a wilderness nature. In the end stage,
pass various interesting tourist sites in historic and character-rich
Georgetown. There are several good pubs and restaurants here.
